Reflecting on Ephesians 4:3
“Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.” — Ephesians 4:3 (NIV)
Unity is a precious gift in any community, but especially within the church. In Ephesians 4:3, Paul urges believers to “make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.” This unity is not something we create ourselves; it is given by the Holy Spirit. However, we are called to maintain and protect it.
Life together can be challenging. Differences in opinion, personality, or background can test our patience and understanding. Yet, Paul’s words remind us that unity requires intentionality. “Make every effort” means pursuing peace even when it’s hard, choosing forgiveness over resentment, and prioritizing love above being right.
The “bond of peace” is what holds this unity together. When we walk in peace—through our words, actions, and attitudes—we allow God’s Spirit to work in and through us. Our unity then becomes a testimony to the world of God’s love and power.
Prayer: Lord, help me to be a peacemaker today. Give me wisdom and patience to pursue unity and let my actions reflect Your love to those around me. Amen.
