Devotional Message
Psalm 56:11 (NIV)
Trusting in God When Fear Creeps In
“In God I trust; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?”
This portion of God’s Word reminds us that, even when uncertainty or anxiety threatens to overwhelm us, our trust in God can be our anchor. The psalmists life had been upended. David was running from King Saul and now life had gotten even worse. For now David had found himself inn the territory of the Philistine’s and he was face to face with the enemy of Israel.
Perhaps you are facing some really difficult situations. Like David maybe people have taken an aggressive stand toward you or you or your family have felt threatened. Thankfully we live in a nation that provides us help and protection when we are threatened yet in the actual moment of threats or trouble fear can take control and even paralyze us.
David gives us a good example of how to respond to fear, threats and troubling times. He chose faith over fear, declaring God's protection greater than any threat. Today, when worry tries to take hold, let’s remember that God is with us and nothing can separate us from His love.
David spent time in prayer and listening for God’s direction. As we faithfully do the same we can like the Psalmist be assured of His care.. Rest in Him, and let your confidence rise above your fears and you too can say with confidence “what can man do to me?”
For is the Lord is for us who can be against us? Romans 8:31.
